ALK Technologies Releases PC*MILER|Worldwide 24.1
Industry Leading Map Data Coverage to be Showcased at the Descartes Evolution 2010
Global User Group Conference
Fort Lauderdale, FL — October 4, 2010 - ALK Technologies, Inc., the leading developer of truck-specific routing, mileage, and mapping software, today announced the release of industry-standard PC*MILER|Worldwide 24.1. ALK will demonstrate this solution at the Descartes Systems Group’s Evolution 2010 Global User Group Conference. The conference will be held October 5-7 at the W Hotel in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
PC*MILER|Worldwide 24.1 generates routes, distances, maps, and driving directions over the entire international highway network. Regional coverage includes Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania, North America and South America.
ALK’s proprietary worldwide routing and map data has been relied upon by the United States Department of Defense (DoD) as their official worldwide distance standard for more than a decade. In select regions outside of North America, NAVTEQ digital map data has been seamlessly integrated with ALK’s proprietary routing network to create the most robust solution of its kind. The database includes over 659,000 new miles of roads in Europe and over 13,000 new miles in South America. The increase in postal code coverage can be seen throughout most regions with over 392,000 new postal
codes in Asia and over 37,500 new postal codes in South America.
"With this enhanced map data coverage, PC*MILER|Worldwide enables users to more accurately optimize, visualize and manage their global supply chains,” said Craig Fiander, Vice President, Marketing – PC*MILER Solutions for ALK. "It provides transportation and logistics companies the most accurate transit times and distances for network optimization, freight payment, rating and carrier selection applications. Leading transportation and mobile resource management providers, like Descartes, will also benefit from its superior integration tools and performance."
PC*MILER|Worldwide 24.1 comprehensive secondary road coverage throughout Western and Central Europe; updated 53-Foot/Twin Trailer routing and map data; and new truck restrictions throughout North America and Europe. The new truck restrictions throughout Western and Central Europe include height, length, width, and weight restrictions as well as through truck discouraged and truck prohibited designations.
New features and enhancements include Least Cost Routing which generates optimal routes based on custom fuel efficiency, time and operating cost settings. PC*MILER|Worldwide 24.1 also calculates estimated Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions per route. An all new Custom Vehicle Profiles feature keeps route settings consistent for selected vehicle types. The newly enhanced Import Custom Places feature eliminates manual trip entry and now includes an export feature to audit saved locations.
The entire PC*MILER product line will be showcased at the Descartes User Group Conference, including its hazmat routing, tolls, web services and rail offerings. Truck-specific GPS navigation solutions CoPilot Live Truck and PC*MILER Navigator, which provide spoken street-level directions, will also be featured at the conference. In addition, Craig Fiander, ALK’s Vice President, Marketing – PC*MILER Solutions, will participate in a panel discussion – Innovations and Trends in GIS & Map Data, on Wednesday, October 6th. Descartes Systems Group, an ALK strategic alliance partner, has integrated PC*MILER with their Transportation Manager and Route Planner software.
