Brings Hours of Service compliance for enhanced route planning and improved asset utilization
Princeton, N.J. – June 30, 2015 - ALK Technologies, a Trimble Company and global leader in GeoLogistics® solutions and navigation software, today introduced the latest version of its PC*MILER® truck routing, mileage and mapping software. PC*MILER 29 allows for greater comprehensive planning in the back office and provides new tools to enable transportation companies to minimize overall operational costs, such as a new HOS Manager that factors Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Hours of Service (HOS) regulated breaks directly into the route.
With PC*MILER’s HOS Manager, mandatory HOS breaks are incorporated during trip planning, allowing transportation companies to clearly understand actual travel times and distance traveled. Access to this more accurate mileage information can significantly improve asset utilization as fleets can more efficiently manage their assets and ensure they’re maximizing revenue per day. When planning a route, dispatchers can easily identify if a driver will be in violation as well as identify an appropriate stop to break if needed. They can even view a list of amenities located at a stop to assist in choosing the best break location.
“Our customers can realize significant benefits from having HOS requirements built directly into their routes,” said Kara Jo O’Neil, senior product manager at ALK. “Keeping drivers HOS compliant is an ongoing national issue and we’re pleased to continue to evolve our solution to address the needs of the industry. PC*MILER 29’s improved overall functionality is equipped with the tools to further facilitate comprehensive planning that directly impacts the back office and the drivers on the road.”
PC*MILER 29 also includes the ability to search and display Points of Interest (POIs) along a route, guiding the driver to a preferred and designated stop. In addition, dispatchers can now choose the most cost-effective fuel stop when planning a route using integrated, nationwide live fuel pricing from Pilot and Flying J. Fuel prices are updated every 30 minutes, allowing dispatchers to make quick and easy changes within the route plan, providing more efficient and cost-effective routing overall.
PC*MILER 29 users will have the choice of avoiding ferries as well as roads above a specified elevation through the Ferry and Elevation Discouraged routing options. Elevation Discouraged Routing permits users to set customized limits on road elevations during route planning, enabling them to protect precious goods that could potentially damage a shipment. A revamped Via Points Manager, updated hazardous roadway restrictions as well as database enhancements and routing improvements in North America are also included within the release.
PC*MILER runs on Microsoft Windows, UNIX and Linux platforms as well as IBM AS/400 (iSeries) and mainframe computers. PC*MILER is also available as a Web-based application. It can also be seamlessly integrated with leading transportation and supply chain management systems.
