ALK Technologies Announces the 9th Annual DTOD Release for the U.S. Department of Defense
Defense Table of Official Distances Based on PC*MILER 22.1
Provides Worldwide Routing, Mileage and Mapping

Princeton, New Jersey – November 6, 2008 - ALK Technologies and the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) released Version 22.1 of the Defense Table of Official Distances (DTOD). The DTOD standardizes surface transportation planning, execution and billing for the U.S. DoD, one of the world’s largest buyers of transportation services.

The DTOD is based on ALK’s PC*MILER and PC*MILER|Worldwide, the transportation industry’s routing, mileage, and mapping standard. Version 22.1 marks the ninth consecutive year that ALK has been the official provider of critical data and services for the U.S. DoD. PC*MILER is also used by the General Services Administration, which provides transportation purchasing services to most non-Defense U.S. government agencies.

The DTOD is used by defense contractors and within the U.S. military for household goods movements and travel reimbursement, as well as freight transportation. The use of the DTOD distance standard extends to commercial carriers who use the official DoD distance information for the contract bidding process. The DTOD is administered by the DTOD Program Management Office, which was created “to review and select the best available commercial product.” Since 1999, that product has been PC*MILER.

With facilities across the nation and around the world, the U.S. DoD has a budget of more than $0.5 trillion. The surface transportation of purchased materials is planned, carried out and billed based on DTOD.

“ALK is particularly proud of our association with the U.S. Department of Defense,” said Mark Hornung, Senior Vice President, Operations for ALK Technologies. “We are pleased they have chosen ALK to help manage one of the most complex, ongoing global logistics challenges.”

The U.S. DoD provides DTOD routing and mileage to authorized users over the Internet. In conjunction with the DTOD 22.1 release, ALK releases PC*MILER 22.1 and PC*MILER|Worldwide 22.1. These are commercial versions of the DTOD for those who handle freight or personal property shipments for the U.S. DoD globally. These commercial versions allow seamless integration with all leading supply chain and transportation management software systems including Innovative Computing, McLeod Software, Oracle, SAP, and TMW Systems, among others.

PC*MILER Solutions also include PC*MILER|Tolls, PC*MILER|Streets, PC*MILER|HazMat, PC*MILER|FuelTax, PC*MILER|Rail, PC*MILER Navigator, PC*MILER Web Services, and ALK|FleetSuite.  For more information, visit www.pcmiler.com.
