ALK Technologies Announces the 12th Annual DTOD Release
for the United States Department of Defense
The Defense Table of Official Distances Provides PC*MILER | Worldwide 25.1 Routing, Mileage and Mapping
Princeton, NJ — November 14, 2011 - ALK Technologies and the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) announced the release of the Defense Table of Official Distances (DTOD) Version 25.1, the official standard of vehicular land distances for all DoD household goods, DoD freight, and travel reimbursement for military personnel. The DTOD is deployed over the Internet using PC*MILER Web Services, ALK’s hosted interfacing application.
The Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC), which serves as the liaison between the U.S. DoD and commercial carriers, is one of the world’s largest shippers with more than $2 billion spent annually on transportation services. The DTOD also is used by the General Services Administration (GSA), which provides transportation purchasing services to most non-Defense U.S. government agencies.
All motor carriers and logistics companies that handle freight or personal property shipments for the SDDC and GSA must use the most recent version of DTOD to generate distances for payment and audit purposes.
PC*MILER 25.1 and PC*MILER|Worldwide 25.1 are the commercial versions of the DTOD that enable carriers and logistics services providers to generate DTOD distances. Additionally, the comprehensive suite of PC*MILER integration products has also been updated and enhanced. PC*MILER integration products interface with all leading transportation and supply chain management systems.
The release of Version 25.1 marks the twelfth year that ALK Technologies has been the official provider of critical mileage data and services for the U.S. DoD. DTOD 25.1 generates routes, distances, transit times, maps, and driving directions over the entire international highway network, providing seamless coverage of 224 countries worldwide.
The DoD uses an enterprise version of PC*MILER Web Services to deploy DTOD quickly and efficiently to the approximately 12 applications and tens of thousands of personnel who rely on DTOD distances. DoD applications and personnel can seamlessly access DTOD updates and releases from central mileage servers, without the delays and expense associated with shipping and updating software at each application and personnel site.
In conjunction with the release of DTOD 25.1, ALK announced the release of PC*MILER Web Services 25.1 that offers updated worldwide coverage to Standard-Worldwide and Premium-Worldwide users. ALK also recently announced the release of PC*MILER|Worldwide 25.1, updated with thousands of additional highway and road miles for improved city-to-city routing worldwide. City and postal code coverage has been updated and consolidated in over 140 countries.
New PC*MILER|Worldwide features and enhancements available in DTOD 25.1 include 29 languages to choose from for viewing reports; a new time-based routing feature for more precise calculation of ETA/ETD, taking time zones into consideration; a new worldwide Time Zone Display option; improved custom place importing that now accepts postal code, city, state and address data in addition to lat/longs in all regions; and the addition of international border crossing points around the world.
